Welcome!

This event is designed to spark a regional conversation and action to ensure that SB1000--the Healthy Communities Act-- delivers the promise of improving quality of life and better health outcomes in the most vulnerable communities in all Southern California Cities and beyond.  SB1000 is the best legislative opportunity for urban and regional planners to collaborate with public health professionals, community based organizations, health coalitions, educational institutions, elected and appointed officials and others, to maximize the capacity of planning departments.  Collectively, we can craft and implement realistic policies and programs designed to alleviate and prevent the burdens of  environmental injustices in our neighborhoods.
Southern California leaders—from the public, private and non-profit sectors representing urban and regional planning, public health and advocacy fields—will come together to discuss how to effectively implement environmental justice into General Plans as required per SB1000 "The Healthy Communities Act."
This event is organized under the auspices of the American Planning Association Inland Empire Section and the Riverside University Health System-Public Health.

Goals and Objectives

Goals:
1. Establish a network of environmental justice stakeholders that will set a collaborative framework  for the regional implementation of SB1000 in Southern California.

2.   Continue to build opportunities for healthy communities champions to connect and collaborate under the umbrella of the American Planning Association California Chapter's Planners4Health Initiative.

Objectives:

  1. Convene a minimum of 100 leaders from Southern California in the fields of public health, planning and environmental justice to learn and discuss opportunities for SB1000  policy development  and implementation.
  2. Create a “deep dive” learning space for SB1000 content and discussion.
  3. Produce a report based on dialog and ideas generated during the convening for dissemination with pertinent stakeholders after the event.
  4. Identify resources (financial and human) to help jurisdictions prepare and implement SB1000 policies.
  5. Set the stage for an ongoing and long-term collaboration centered on SB1000 between State, regional and local  stakeholders to prevent and address environmental injustices.

During this convening, participants will have an opportunity to dive deep into 16 topics related to SB1000.  Sixteen professional facilitators will host roundtables designed to engage all attendees into a robust  and constructive conversation, and an exchange of ideas.
