Matthew Burris, AICP LEED AP
Deputy City Manager of Community and Economic Development

Matthew Burris is the Deputy City Manager of Community and Economic Development for the City of Rancho Cucamonga. He has over 17 years of experience working with local governments, and for a variety of private sector firms. Matt also served as a Planning Commissioner for California’s newest city, Jurupa Valley. Matt has long been an advocate for healthier, sustainable, and equitable communities. He focuses on connecting policy with actionable implementation and, over the course of his career, he prepared some of the first “health elements” in California. Additionally, Matt led the development of the Healthy Development Checklist, now in use by many Inland Empire communities. In addition to his work in community development, Matt has regularly taught planning courses for both UC Berkeley and UC Riverside. He is a Certified Planner, a LEED Accredited Professional, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara, as well as a Master of Science in City and Regional Planning, and a Master of Science in Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Many of the projects Matt has been instrumental in professionally, have won state and national awards.
